About the Product Life Cycle

We keep your McAfee products up-to-date by automatically updating your software with every new version. As long as you keep your subscription valid and connect to the internet regularly, you'll automatically have the latest software and security updates.

Retail Product Activation

You can activate your McAfee products up to six months after we release the next version. For example, you can activate a McAfee 2012 product up to six months after we release the 2013 version of the same product.

Technical Support

McAfee provides technical support for all products we sell, which have not reached ‘End-of-Life’. If your product is not the latest available version, Support may require an update in order to render assistance. Visit service.mcafee.com to access our Community Forum, answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs), and to access support phone, chat or email. Support options may vary by region.

Microsoft Operating System Compatibility

McAfee provides technical support for its products that run Microsoft operating systems. We support:

  • Microsoft Windows XP (32-bit) with Service Pack 3 (SP3) or later
  • Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit) with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later
  • Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit) and later
  • Windows 8

McAfee recommends that you always install the latest service packs for your operating system.

Mac Operating System Compatibility

McAfee provides technical support for its products that run on Mac operating system, we support:

  • Apple Mac OS X 10.5 or higher
