Description

This is a virus detection. Viruses are programs that self-replicate recursively, meaning that infected systems spread the virus to other systems, which then propagate the virus further. While many viruses contain a destructive payload, it's quite common for viruses to do nothing more than spread from one system to another.

Indication of Infection

Macro warning if opening infected document, increase in size to global template; message as described above.

Methods of Infection

Opening infected documents will infect global template normal.dot.

Aliases

NO_VA, W97M/Nova

Virus Characteristics

This is a virus for Word 97 documents. It is not able to replicate under the SR-1 release of Word 97. It will not turn off the macro warning feature of Word 97. This virus consists of a two macro modules named "autoexit" and "autoclose". It appears to be originally coded for Word6/7 and its origin is from Brazil.

This virus hooks the system event of closing Word97 by the module "autoexit" thereby running its code. Additionally the system event of closing documents is also hooked. Attempts to use menu items of the same name within Word97 will run the macro code routine.

When exiting Word97 on July 28, this message is displayed:
Meu aniversário
Parabéns para mim!

When exiting Word97 on any other day, this message is displayed: Nova Vítima Fechando 2807M!
