Description

This is a virus detection. Viruses are programs that self-replicate recursively, meaning that infected systems spread the virus to other systems, which then propagate the virus further. While many viruses contain a destructive payload, it's quite common for viruses to do nothing more than spread from one system to another.

Indication of Infection

A Macro warning message is displayed when opening an infected workbook in Microsoft Excel applications which support macro warnings. The system would not be infected if the macro is disabled due to the alert.

View of tools | macro gives the following available macro names:

  • Fun_AddMenu00
  • Fun_AddMenu01
  • Fun_AddMenu02
  • Fun_AddMenu03
  • Fun_AddMenu04
  • Fun_AddMenuALL
  • Fun_DelMenuALL
  • Fun_Sample0
  • Fun_Sample2
  • Fun_Sample3

The above mentioned Macros are available in the module named SP04_"Ä—p.

Methods of Infection

Opening an infected workbook and allowing the macro code to run will copy a loader workbook named KINSLAYER.XLS to the XLSTART folder. Any Excel workbook opened on this now infected system will become infected also.
