Description

This detection is for a worm that attempts to copy itself to the root of any accessible disk volumes. Additionally it attempts to place an Autorun.inf file on the root of the volume so that it is executed the next time the volume is mounted.

Indication of Infection

    • Presence of above mentioned Files and registry keys
    • The worm is active in the process list

Methods of Infection

This worm may be spread by its intented method of infected removable drives. Alternatively this may be installed by visiting a malicious web page (either by clicking on a link), or by the website hosting a scripted exploit which installs the worm onto the user's system with no user interaction.

"W32/Autorun.worm.h" is a worm that may propagate via removable drives or network shares.

Upon Execution, the Worm copies itself into the following location:

  • %SystemDrive%\Settings\search.cmd
  • %SystemDrive%\gpj.scr
  • %Driveroot%\gpj.scr
  • : [RemovableDrive]\gpj.scr
  • %AppData%\rcs.jpg

The above JPG image[porn photo] file get launched by the malware itself.  

Upon execution the Worm tries to connect to the following URL / IP address through remote port 80

htxp://www.cad[removed]et.php?search

The following registry entries have been added to the system.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\

The above mentioned registry ensures that the Worm gets executed upon every reboot.

Upon execution the worm inject into the windows explorer (Explorer.exe) and connects to the below IP Address

In order to make a connection to the following URL through the remote port 80.

  • rJKnh[Removed]ice.ru 

And copies of itself in to the below location

  • : [RemovableDrive]\ b17ef6c_l.exe

And drops an autorun.inf file into the root of all removable drives and mapped drives in an attempt to autorun an executable when the drive is accessed.

The file "AutoRun.inf" is pointing to the malware binary executable, when the removable or networked drive is accessed from a machine supporting the Autorun feature, the malware is launched automatically.

The Autorun.inf file will look like this

Worm disables Task Manager and command run and It  also attempts to create an autorun.inf file on the root of any accessible disk volumes.

Once the user system is compromised it steals the financial information (e.g : User Name, Password etc) and sends that information to the remote site without the user knowledge.

This worm copies itself to a hidden folder called \RESTORE\k-1-3542-4232123213-7676767-8888886\ on drive C and connected external drives, and also creates an autorun.inf file on the external drives.

It adds the following registry entries.

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{67KLN5J0-4OPM-00WE-AAX5-77EF1D187563} "StubPath"
    • Type: REG_SZ
    • Data: C:\RESTORE\k-1-3542-4232123213-7676767-8888886\RanDll.exe

It drops the following files:

    • C:\RESTORE\k-1-3542-4232123213-7676767-8888886\Desktop.ini (Size: 62 bytes)
    • C:\RESTORE\k-1-3542-4232123213-7676767-8888886\RanDll.exe (Size: 740,352 bytes)
    • %External Drive%\autorun.inf (Size:254 bytes)

This detection is for a worm.It attempts to spread to removable drives by creating an autorun.inf file, which will run the worm automatically, if a systems which use the removable drive are set to Autorun.

The following registry keys are created:

The following files are written to root of writeable volumes:

    •  AUTORUN.INF
    •  BOOT.VBS
    •  HP.EXE
    •  SYSTEMM7.EXE

The following files are also written to the infected system:

    • %WINDIR%\SYSTEMM7.EXE
    • %WINDIR%\SYSTEM32\COMSTR.EXE
    • %WINDIR%\SYSTEM32\SYSTEMM7.EXE
   

All Users:
Use current engine and DAT files for detection and removal.

Modifications made to the system Registry and/or INI files for the purposes of hooking system startup, will be successfully removed if cleaning with the recommended engine and DAT combination (or higher).
