Description

This is a Trojan detection. Unlike viruses, trojans do not self-replicate. They are spread manually, often under the premise that they are beneficial or wanted. The most common installation methods involve system or security exploitation, and unsuspecting users manually executing unknown programs. Distribution channels include email, malicious or hacked web pages, Internet Relay Chat (IRC), peer-to-peer networks, etc.

Virus Characteristics

W32/Pinkslipbot.gen.ax is detection for the Trojan that drop malicious files and connects to the malicious sites to download other malicious files.

Upon execution the Trojan tries to connect to the following sites and download other malicious files:

  • pos[Removed]kn.in.ua
  • mus[Removed]tf.info
  • wu[Removed]76.net

When executed the Trojan copies itself into the following location and deletes itself:

  • %Appdata%\Microsoft\Jaiyvam\jaiyvam.exe

And drops following files:

  • %Appdata%\Microsoft\Jaiyvam\cjaiyvam32.dll
  • %Appdata%\Microsoft\Jaiyvam\jaiyva.dll
  • %Appdata%\Microsoft\Jaiyvam\jaiyvam32.dll
  • %WinDir%\Temp\~jaiyvam.tmp

The following folder has been added to the system:

  • %Appdata%\Microsoft\Jaiyvam

The following registry keys have been added to the system.

The following registry values have been added to the system.

The below mentioned registry ensures that the Trojan registers itself as a run entry with the compromised system and execute upon every reboot.

   

All Users:
Use current engine and DAT files for detection and removal.

Modifications made to the system Registry and/or INI files for the purposes of hooking system startup, will be successfully removed if cleaning with the recommended engine and DAT combination (or higher).
