Removal Instructions

This is a trojan detection. Unlike viruses, trojans do not self-replicate. They are spread manually, often under the premise that they are beneficial or wanted. The most common installation methods involve system or security exploitation, and unsuspecting users manually executing unknown programs. Distribution channels include email, malicious or hacked web pages, Internet Relay Chat (IRC), peer-to-peer networks, etc.

Indication of Infection

A missing TOOLS|MACRO menu in Word.

Methods of Infection

Accidentally or intentionally opening this document triggers the payload.

Virus Characteristics

This is a trojan affecting Word97/2000, not virus. It does not infect other documents or templates. This trojan is contained in two modules, AutoOpen and AutoClose. The AutoOpen macro hides the TOOLS|MACROS menu in Word for all documents and templates. When the trojan is closed during November and December, if the day of the month is greater than 15, it overwrites its own text with:

Por maricón y maruja, por hablar mal de
tus hermanos sin ver tus defectos.
